Shop Adjustable Drop Hitches
An adjustable drop hitch lets you set the height of the ball mount so your trailer sits level when connected to the tow vehicle. This is important for safe towing as it affects weight distribution, braking and handling. This collection includes adjustable drop hitches from Gen Y in various weight ratings and receiver sizes.
How Adjustable Drop Hitches Work
Adjustable drop hitches slide into your vehicle's receiver and allow you to move the ball mount up or down to match the trailer height. Most models have multiple adjustment positions. The Gen Y range includes models with 3 to 5 adjustable positions, letting you fine-tune the drop or rise. Key things to check when choosing:
- Receiver size (2" or 2.5")
- Weight rating (match or exceed your trailer's gross mass)
- Drop range (how much height adjustment you need)

Gen Y Adjustable Drop Hitches
The Gen Y range includes the Mega Duty and BOSS Torsion Flex models. The Mega Duty is a straightforward adjustable drop hitch, while the BOSS Torsion Flex adds a built-in torsion dampening system. Both are available in multiple weight ratings. For Gen Y accessories like reducer sleeves, shims and locking pins, browse our Gen Y Hitches brand page. Secure your hitch with a caravan hitch lock.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what drop I need?
Measure the height from the ground to the top of your receiver, then the height from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupling. The difference is the drop (or rise) you need. Most adjustable hitches cover a range of positions to get this right.
What weight rating should I choose?
The hitch needs to be rated at or above the gross trailer mass of what you are towing. Check your trailer's compliance plate for the rated weight and choose a hitch that matches or exceeds it.
Can I use an adjustable drop hitch with a DO35 coupling?
Gen Y adjustable hitches use a ball mount system. If your trailer has a DO35 coupling, you would need a DO35 hitch kit instead. The two systems are not interchangeable.
